Some stories were told by the elderly about my brothers’ and my special moments, while others are ones I remember dearly!
Randomly, certain memories come to me while recounting an incident, as one often leads to another.
Here are some of them—I hope they keep you entertained!
We used to have two puppies at a time, and we would always name them Peter and Johnny.
One of the puppies, named Peter, had weak rear legs and couldn’t walk properly.
My mom applied a mixture of herbs and cooked rice to his legs, hoping to help him heal.
Miraculously, his legs healed after a few applications and he ran like his brother and even did the hurdle we set up for him.
Nothing is impossible as long as we are willing to give it a shot
When my second brother was around three years old, he was bitten by a centipede. Our neighbour’s grandfather applied some herbs to his foot, then cut open a toad, placed it over the herbs, and wrapped it up. According to my mom, this was done to draw out the toxins from the bite.
My brother told me he could feel the toad’s heart beating throughout the entire process.
Old folk remedies work because they are based on experience. Therefore, never underestimate the power of experience.
Here’s a story that made me decide never to smoke…
I was probably around seven years old when my second brother, our neighbor's siblings, and I—four of us in total—were fooling around. We picked up cigarette butts from their backyard, most likely thrown out by their parents. Curious, we lit them up and tried to smoke, imitating the adults.
Not knowing how to control my inhaling strength, I took a deep breath and immediately choked on the spicy smoke.
That experience made me dislike smoking! I think it was a valuable lesson—not only did it show me what smoking feels like, but it also kept me from becoming a smoker.
Another reason is that I think smoking is like burning money. Unless you're super rich, I don't see the necessity to smoke, especially when you can barely make ends meet with regular expenses.
Recently, I was chatting with my elder brother about drug addiction. He was confident that I would never fall into it because I simply dislike anything unpleasant. The awful taste of a cigarette was enough to stop me from smoking, let alone trying other types of drugs.
Well, having a short attention span does help in avoiding any kind of addiction.
Do you have any type of addiction? Any sharing you provide would be much appreciated!
If you can learn self control, you can master anything

You share some interesting childhood memories, Bris. My favorite is the one involving the bite and the toad. Nature heals and we need to return to those methods.
One of mine would be around the age of 7, I was playing football and fell with my left palm ✋🏼 pierced by a nail. Scary was fun back then. 😅
From the smoke story, I remembered my grandfather liked to smoke. My cousins and I tried his cigarettes when we were kids, but none of us knew how to smoke properly. We inhaled all the smoke and everything inside, then coughed a lot. After that, we threw away and hid our grandfather's pack of cigarettes so he wouldn’t smoke.
