You guessed it! Janet is not the name given to me by my parents.
First, let me tell you the story of my original name (in Chinese). As I heard…
My maternal grandfather read my dad’s fortune and told him that he would have three boys. The thing is, he did not specify which pregnancy would result in a boy. My dad took it to mean that every one of his children would be a boy. So, he prepared three boys' names, and even after I was born a girl, he made no effort to change his decision. Lol 🤣
I was using that name until I visited a fortune teller in 2008. He told me I lacked the metal element in the Five Elements. Thus, he gave me a few choices to choose from. After deciding on the Chinese character, I thought I might as well change my official name at the same time. That was when Janet ended up on my identity card.
Alright, I can sense your eagerness to know how I got Janet as my name.
Come, sit down, have a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, chill, and hear (read) me out.
I recall we had an English teacher in my 3rd grade (we called it Primary 3). It was kinda tough for her to remember our dialect names, so she came up with the smart idea of listing some English names on the blackboard for us to choose from.
The only girl's name I liked was taken. I did not know which one would be better until I was the last person without a name. Our teacher saw I was at a loss and gave me this name. I was grateful for her understanding and gladly accepted it. I have been using it as an alias because it is easier for people to remember than my dialect name.
It was only two years ago that I learned what Janet means (see above explanation from Wikipedia). Upon learning this, I became even more grateful to my English teacher for choosing this name. What a blessing I have received unknowingly. 🙏🥰
Hey
, I am the feminine version of you! Lol 🤣Sometimes, I wondered why my masculinity seemed more obvious than my femininity. Then I figured maybe my name affected how I presented myself. With the understanding of my new name now, it has once again changed how I show up.
I like to see myself as a gift from God! How nice when coupled with my family name, Goh. It is my pleasure to use it as an abbreviation and decipher GOH as Guest Of Honour.
All of you are my Guests Of Honour, and I am a gift from God to you! It’s a win-win situation here.✌️😁
I shall end it with a song. Though besides the song title, this video is unrelated to my post. But I like the spirit of the lead actress in this Kdrama. Fighting! 👍👊💪
I'm sorry, I don't remember! 😥
How I wish I can trace it back 43years ago. But even my school no longer exist! 😭
Writing this post is the only way I could pay tribute to her! 🙏😊
Hey Janet, this is such an interesting post! Especially when you said your father was told he would have 3 boys and you showed up as a gift! It’s so fascinating how things tend to fall in place for us. The origin or your name is way more interesting than mine lol. Thank so you so much for posting this!
